Could the Allies have prevented the Holocaust?
The Allies could have prevented the Holocaust by acting upon the worries of their citizens. In the Daily Worker’s, February 17 1943 issue, the British public tells the world of the United Nations rage against the inhumanities against the Jewish population in Germany due to the Nazis. They suggested that the United Nations should allow Jews to leave Germany and find shelter in other countries as a solution (document #1). The article also suggested the joint protection of the Jews liberation and escape from many territories (document #1).The United Nations could have acted on any of these suggestions to prevent the horror of the Holocaust. In a letter written by a Jewish representative to the British commissioner in 1942, spoke of the barbaric and wicked acts the Nazis committed against the Jewish population (document #2). The letter also spoke of Hitler's order to exterminate the Jewish population (document #2). With this warming the Allies could have begun working to protect the innocents hurt by their mistakes. They could have banded together and acted. In the Government statement about the evacuations of the Jews it talks about how the Government was not prepared to make any actions to go against the Nazi Government (document #3). It also spoke of other victims that were persecuted in Nazi Germany (document #3). This show the Government's inability to act for their own gain, i thought they could have prevented the slaughtering with the knowledge of the oppression. In conclusion the Allies could have prevented the horrors of the Holocaust.
